Community Awareness & Advocacy

Disability Network Capital Area is part of a larger network of Centers for Independent Living bringing disability awareness and advocacy efforts to the forefront. We work on a larger scale to help governments and businesses make changes that benefit not just those with disabilities but everyone in the community. The independent living movement helps strengthen the idea that “Nothing about us, without us.”

  • Systems Change: Speak before Legislature and collaborate with community partners
  • Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and related laws: Education and awareness
  • Work to educate employers on job accommodations when necessary
  • Provide disability awareness presentations to local groups
  • Group and individualized advocacy skill-building training
